The following are some of the most frequently asked questions about International Assessment Institute and the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) Certification Programs. Q. Where can I take my NCCCO Written Exams?
A. NCCCO Written Exams are available to candidates nationwide in two different formats. Traditional Paper and Pencil format, or Computer Based Testing (CBT) format. Q. How much do the NCCCO Written Exams cost?
A. It depends on the type of exam you are interested in taking. Click here for a summary of the different NCCCO exams and their respective costs?
Q. I want to schedule my CBT exam as soon as possible, what are the necessary steps?
A. After submitting your CBT application online, you will receive an authorization email within 24 hours. After receiving the authorization email you will need to wait and additional 24 hours before calling to schedule your exam. CBT testing centers will accommodate your request to test at the earliest date and time available.
Q. Can I take the NCCCO Written CBT Exams on my home computer?
A. All NCCCO Written Exams must be scheduled and taken through a CBT testing center. CBT testing centers provide a comfortable and secure environment for you to take your exams. Locate a CBT testing center near you by clicking here, selecting National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators as the sponsor, and entering your zip code.
Q. I have entered all my information into the online application, why won't the application accept my credit card information?
A. There are several reasons that the online application might reject your credit card information.
Please verify the following::
- Have you entered the credit card number, expiration date, and security code correctly?
- Have you entered the correct billing address associated with the credit card being used?
- Do you have sufficient funds available on your credit card to complete the transaction?
Q. What can I do if I have already submitted my application, and want to now change my requested exams?
A. Please contact IAI directly, (727) 449-8525. A $30 processing fee and any difference in exam fees will be assessed if you choose to change the exams requested on the original application.
Q. When will I get my exam scores?
A. Once exams are completed, all candidate paperwork is returned to International Assessment Institute (IAI). The exams are scored and results are mailed to candidates. Results are available approximately 12 business days after exam date for the written exams. Tests taken via Computer Based Testing (CBT) will be provided before leaving the testing facility. Practical exam results are scored within approximately 12 business days after receipt of the exams by IAI.
Q. I want to know why I did not pass my written exam. Is there someone who can help me?
A. Candidates receive a strength and weakness report along with their results reports indicating the area(s) that they may need to brush up on.
Q. Many of the other individuals I tested with have received their certification card, why have I not received mine?
A. There could be several reasons that your certification card has been delayed. Common reasons for a delay in issuing your card are:
- IAI has not received your photo
- IAI has an incorrect mailing address
- You may owe outstanding fees

Q. I need proof of certification, but don't have my card. How can I show I am certified?
A. If you do not have your card at hand but need proof of certification, NCCCO can provide verbal confirmation of your certification status by contacting NCCCO at 703-560-2391. If you require written confirmation, NCCCO can provide a Certification Verification letter with certification status and expiration date on the letter but will not provide exam scores.
Q. Are there study materials available that will help me prepare for my NCCCO Written Exams?
A. You will find a list of reference materials for each program in the Candidate Handbooks.
Q. What can you recommend to help me prepare for exams?
A. It is definitely beneficial to review the written and practical exam outlines for your program. The outlines identify and detail the key knowledge areas you will be tested on. Both written and practical exam outlines can be found in the appropriate Candidate Handbooks.
